Collecting your words: An interactive artwork
This week an interactive performance artwork took place at Debut Contemporary, where the intangible was gathered from visitors.
Two performers adorned with sculptural pieces made their way around the gallery, instructing visitors to "pluck a piece of paper from the sculpture, and write something about themselves" Visitors said it was like twitter in sculptural form...
All the words collected will become part of an ever evolving text artwork, and also be used in the artist's sculptural pieces. Thank you to all who took part.
Nicola Anthony is a London based artist seeking to create things which make the mind crackle. She sees the world as a series of interconnected subject matters, fragile moments & ‘stuff’ from which new things can be made.
She uses glass, paper, & found objects in her drawings & sculptures. Meanwhile, text, stories & voices are used as both materials & subjects. With a fascination in narratives & secrets, her work is inspired by language, memory, mapping, collecting, biological references & literary sources.
Her artwork can be found internationally at exhibitions, art fairs and literary festivals. She is currently represented in London’s West End by Debut Contemporary, with artwork set to voyage across to LA this autumn.
Nicola Anthony has received exhibition sponsorship from Tate Britain and her work was recently auctioned by Christies auctioneers. She guest blogs for galleries and art magazines - her artwork & perspective can also be found in her writing for Trebuchet Magazine, and in a recent interview with SKY Arts who came to her London studio to check out her artwork.
