Nicola Anthony creates sumptuous organic, obsessive sculptural works & drawings, the delicate yet chaotic surfaces are constructed using diverse materials & forms...glass, snow, pigment inks, sugar cubes, concrete, found objects, labels & light projection...

Drawings & words are inspired by biological references & literary sources, then crafted through layering & assemblage. Seeing the potential in the details, she collects, layers & sculpts them into something complex and intricate in response to various themes such as memory, genetics, fairy tales, histories, and notions of layering, mapping & multiples.

"For me the measure of an artwork is the amount of time it engages you for, and I aim to make work which is compelling to look at and able to engage its audience on many levels through its many layers.

Does my work change the atmosphere in a space? I like to think so."

"UK artist Nicola Anthony and Brighton based theatre company Random Monkey Productions will be collaborating on a project which aims to gather responses from people all over the diverse, creative, buzzing town of Brighton.

Nicola Anthony is delighted to have the opportunity to work with Random Monkey and produce a commissioned sculpture to coincide with the theatrical Summer production 2008.

The artist will be working closely with members of Random Monkey to go out and interact with Brighton, gathering data and responses from people which is plotted against their geographic location.

This data will then be used as the basis of a sculpture, the dimensions and shape of which will be dictated by the people of Brighton."

Nicola Anthony's artworks are delicately sculpted using text, drawing & montage. Recent work contrasts 'genetic identity' to words gathered from others about the fleeting moments, traits and secrets which form their true, everyday identities.

The process of collecting these thoughts & words has been a gradual, ongoing project for several years to gather diverse responses from a large number of people, and they have been beautiful, moving, funny, bizarre, intriguing, rude, touching, varied…
